Spring Break!

Spring Break in Austin means one thing, and one thing only: SXSW!!! The whole town - and the whole music and film industry! - has donned its flipflops and shorts, or its glammed-out costumes, or its rocker-hippie chic and descended upon every music venue within 20 miles. The weather is glorious (except for that rainy day on Tuesday) and we're all on vacation! yippee!!

I'm taking advantage of the beautiful weather to enjoy the door being open and the breezes blowing while I prepare the materials for our big marketing campaign which begins next week! Starting next week, on community bulletin boards all over town, you will begin to see tear-away fliers and handouts about Laughing Sun Yoga, and in the next few weeks, postcards will be mailed out to residents in the 78745 and surrounding zip codes. I'm very excited to start getting the word out, including hitting the road all over the neighborhood myself, introducing myself and the studio to local businesses and residents. Because we're so tucked out of the way in our artist's warehouse, I am excited about getting out there and letting people know about this great little studio.

Meanwhile, the website has been updated, and pictures of the studio will be posted soon! Little by little, every day in every way, the studio gets better and better! I love being here, I love teaching here, and I am so excited about everyone who is walking through our doors!

What is Laughing Sun Yoga?

Laughing Sun Yoga is born of a deep love for Hot Yoga, total respect for the master who taught it to me, adoration for the students I have taught, and a burning desire to expand my practice and my knowledge.

Laughing Sun Yoga is a boutique hot yoga studio that focuses on the individual - their needs, their challenges, their practice. I want to expand upon the basic hot yoga practice to better serve the needs of the individuals who practice it, and to deepen their understanding of what this thing is called yoga. At the same time, it is JOYFUL hot yoga - no dogma, no "yoga nazis," lots of laughter, a place of peaceful, engaging support for the student on their journey.

Laughing Sun is a place for serious yoga students (even if it's their first class) who want to learn as much as they can about yoga - theory, philosophy, history - and to expand their practice beyond their current limitations. This is what I want for myself, and so that is what I want to provide for you.

Walking the path of the yogi is not easy. There are times of challenge, difficulty, times when you doubt if you are even on the right path. There are also times of great joy, happiness, laughter, and secure knowledge of the rightness of your journey.

My journey has been full of many ups and downs, twists and turns - just like a yoga practice. I began my career as a fashion designer in New York City, decided that wasn't for me, but didn't know what else was. I discovered Bikram Yoga in 2001, and loved it immediately. I attended teacher training in the spring of 2002 and began teaching immediately. I have loved every class I've ever taught - I love my students, I love yoga. I have been very blessed to have taught in many places, including Asia in a 6 month visit to Singapore. Most recently, I was the Studio Manager for Bikram Yoga Austin - Yogagroove. I was with YG for 2 years and helped grow the business into its current expansion. I have many dedicated and beloved students there who I miss enormously. I left YG in February of 2009 and immediately began to put together my vision for Laughing Sun Yoga: a boutique hot yoga studio that focuses on the individual - their needs, their challenges, their practice. I see Laughing Sun as a place for serious yoga students who want to learn as much as they can about yoga - theory, philosophy, history - and to expand their practice beyond their current limitations. This is what I want for myself, so that is what I want to provide for you.

I currently live in South Austin where I can walk to Barton Springs Pool and enjoy the bounty of Zilker Park. I am also a raw vegan and offering counseling and coaching on transitioning to a healthier diet-style, including yoga and diet for weight loss.
